MUTARS® HD elbow system
The HD elbow is a further development of our MUTARS® elbow, whilst retaining many of the original design features. With this further development, the product range has also been expanded to offer a wide variety of high-quality standard products, enabling the best possible solution to be found quickly and easily during surgery.
The most notable innovation of the HD Elbow System is the introduction of implacross® E PE bearings. implacross® E is a vitamin E-doped, cross-linked ultra-highmolecular-weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE). Whilst the cross-linking of the polyethylene increases its wear resistance, the addition of vitamin E enhances the materials long-term stability.1 implacross® E is therefore a good choice of material for the PE bearings which, together with the ulnar component, form the sliding pair of the HD elbow.

PE bearings
Two PE bearing options are available. In addition to the fully constrained (FC) option, a semi-constrained (SC) option can now be selected intraoperatively. The partially guided SC PE bearing allows for medial and lateral deflection of ± 3.5° in each direction. This defined range of motion supports a more physiological transfer of force and can minimise the risk of premature stem loosening. Complementing the SC bearing is the FC PE bearing, which offers the option of a fully guided elbow joint, thereby ensuring maximum stability in situations requiring increased guidance.
Compatibilities
In keeping with our MUTARS® philosophy, the various distal humeral and ulnar components within the HD elbow system are compatible with one another. This enables bone-preserving surgical planning, which, in the event of unforeseen circumstances, allows for an intraoperative switch to the next larger implant component without any problems and also facilitates unilateral revisions.
